Design
Speed and design is incorporated into the product. The idea was to create something simplistic that works extremely well.
We focused on three elements that make a good jump rope:
pin & bearing assembly, handle & grip, and the cable.
Surprisingly, the bearings were agreed upon after watching a yoyo video. After researching the standard yoyo bearing size, we immediately knew it would be the perfect choice for our jump ropes.
The main focus on the handle was the length, diameter, and grip. After sampling multiple handle lengths we settled on 6 inches (152 mm). We then applied tape similar to what is used on rackets to make the handles grippier.
The thickness of the cable was chosen based on the cables that are most used by CrossFit athletes who excel at double unders. We ultimately decided on a 1*19 braid configuration because we preferred a slightly more rigid cable. It made it challenging to obtain multiple colors, but we did it anyway.
